The Honorable Sonia Hornery MP has been a beacon of dedication in the NSW Legislative Assembly since 2007, proudly representing the Australian Labor Party. Recently elected as the Deputy Speaker on May 9, 2023, Sonia's commitment to her constituents is unwavering. Her re-election multiple times is a testament to her relentless advocacy and tangible results, inspiring hope for a brighter future.

Sonia's journey to public service began in the close-knit communities of Edgeworth and Windale. Her early experiences, coupled with her role as a high school history teacher, instilled in her a deep sense of duty. This commitment led her to transition to roles that directly served her community, including working with Hunter Brain Injury Respite Options and serving in the Army Reserves.

She actively champions local initiatives and clubs, such as the Wallsend District Cricket Club Tigers, as she firmly believes in the transformative power of community engagement. Her advocacy for quality public education, healthcare, and affordable housing is a testament to her tireless work to improve the lives of the vulnerable and underrepresented.

When she's not busy serving her community, Sonia indulges in her love for personal health and the arts. She finds solace in swimming, reading, playing the piano, and strumming the ukulele with Newcastle's Ukestra in her leisure time.
